In a statement released early yesterday, Virtuix stated that they were too small a company to follow through with their promise to ship internationally. I have been following the story and reading the comments both on their Kickstarter Campaign and their Official Virtuix Forum and people are PISSED. They have been openly accusing them of everything from bad practice to threatening legal action. In an attempt to assuage the furious community of international "supporters" the company will be issuing full refunds with a 3% interest per year for anyone who has been waiting close to 4 years for their product. As a Texan, this does not affect me, but I would be sharpening my pitchfork and readying my torch right along with the international buyers as they inevitably plan on kicking down their doors and demanding an immersive VR experience. I was, personally, one of the people who supported them on Kickstarter and have been showing off this future badass piece of hardware to anyone who would listen, as have many of the international buyers I imagine, now they have to save face in front of all their friends who likely laughed at them for their preorder of a resurrected concept from the nineties.
There has already been talk on the forums of scalping and ways to get around this, literally right in front of their faces on the aforementioned official forum. Jan, the creator and CEO of the company, has been surprisingly active all day today and yesterday, trying to quell the furious mob of people who REALLY wanted to get their feet on this thing. He has explained his position numerous times but no one is any less angry. I can only imagine that by now tears are pooling inside his VR headset as he tries to run away on his Omni from the virtual mob he inevitably sees every time he closes his eyes. Jan will soon learn that there's nowhere you can go to escape the internet when it has it out for you. As this story unfolds, I imagine that Virtuix will release a more public statement, if this story becomes viral enough to even be newsworthy, but for now it's contained mostly to the official forums and VR circles.
How about you, dear readers? Would you still support this company or would you be willing to join the mob?
